BAPTISM

Brooklyn Corinne Orgill was received into the Kingdom of God through the waters of Holy Baptism on Sunday September 25. We rejoice with little Corinne as she becomes the newest member of Light of the Valley Lutheran Church along with her mother Brooke and her Aunt Brett Christensen who were also received as members through affirmation of faith during the same service.  His Family and Our Family at Light of the Valley Lutheran Church are indeed growing in exciting fashion. Praise God and to Him be all the glory all the time!

Ambitio Divinitatis: What Havoc! What Destruction! Genesis 3, the Enlightenment, Fascism, Marxism and Today’s Postmodernism!

Brent Kuhlman, Pastor from Murdock, NE will speak to the gathering on the subject of:  Ambitio Divinitatis: What Havoc! What Destruction! Genesis 3, the Enlightenment, Fascism, Marxism and Today’s Postmodernism!  The ambition or desire to be God is the old satanic lie of Genesis 3. The lie promises utopia. However, those that    believe the lie have unleashed immense violence in this sinful world. We’ll observe some of this sad history. In addition, we’ll hear the call to repent of our own ambitio divinitatis, rejoice in the good news of the Lord’s forgiveness for such idolatry, and learn to live in the freedom of being a human being who descends in love to serve our neighbors as best we can.   Join in for this great pot luck dinner event.

Opportunity for New Campus

Twenty-five people including faculty and staff from Lutheran High, members of the Lutheran High board of directors and delegates, members of Light of the Valley Lutheran Church, and those from other congregations met at the Garden Lodge (approx. 12700 S. 2100 W.)  on Tuesday evening (August 3, 2010) to tour the spectacular 14-acre property.

This incredible site which includes an extravagantly finished 60,000 square foot building (including warehouse, greenhouse, and cafeteria) is available and being considered as a possible shared location for a new campus for Lutheran High and Light of the Valley Lutheran Church! There are ten developed acres including a beautiful garden and 270 parking stalls and four other acres for possible athletic fields.

Over the past five years, Lutheran High has been seeking to relocate the school’s campus. This was part of a plan that was shared and adopted at a Lutheran High Town Hall meeting in November 2005. During the information gathering process prior to that meeting, there was a survey conducted in the Fall of 2005 indicating the favorability of moving LHS to a site in the lower west side of the valley due to its potential for growth. That growth certainly has happened and continues today. As we continue to seek God’s guidance, and His direction for Lutheran High and Light of the Valley, we are again presented with an opportunity to possibly move forward with this plan.

We invite anyone interested to join us on another tour of the facility Tuesday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Please RSVP to Charles Gebhardt at Lutheran High (801-266-6676 or c.gebhardt.sllhs@gmail.com)

Light of the Valley Hosts Mardi Gras Event

Light of the Valley Lutheran Church in Riverton, UT hosted a very successful social event to celebrate Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday (February 16, 2010).  The “Cajun Boil”, a mixture of sausage, shrimp, crab, potatoes, corn on the cob, and onions was served “Cajun style” directly on the tables so guests could eat their fill by peeling the shrimp and crab with their fingers and enjoying the spicy delicacy.  Over 100 people from the Salt Lake City area enjoyed the celebration so much that the members of Light of the Valley plan to make this an annual affair.

The special guest of the evening was District President Randall Golter.  George Argyle, a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Provo, UT provided entertainment by singing country songs.  Men from several other Lutheran Churches in the area enjoyed fellowship in a dart ball tournament.

The event was a fund raiser to assist Light of the Valley in raising funds to pursue working with the Open Arms Institute in developing a day care and early childhood education facility on the site where Light of the Valley is operating currently.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans contributed by matching $1 for each $2 raised up to $1,500.  Praise God for the great celebration that was shared by this group of joyful Lutherans.
